Today I didn't work on the job hunt--I started on my taxes for the first time ever before the month of April! One good thing about being unemployed is that preparing your taxes becomes more straightforward.
The stress free tax filing experience wasn't all due to my unemployment status. My fiancé referred me to a great local tax preparer so he certainly helped. His profession got me thinking: if there are few things more certain in life than death and taxes then becoming a CPA could be a smart way to ensure a steady income. I could work for myself from any location, I wouldn't have to wait for someone to pick me for a new job and I enjoy helping people with their personal finances as my 13 years in the financial services industry demonstrate.
The thing is the technical aspect of personal finances, namely in the world of a CPA--taxes--and its corresponding tome of a tax code bore me to tears. Now if you're a CPA and you deeply love your work please don't be offended. We need you in the world and it doesn't look like I'll be competing for your business anytime soon.
Happy tax filing!
