Last night during an unusually strong thunderstorm we lost power. At 11 PM, I didn’t mind the sudden black out, it gave me an excuse to turn in early.
But when the outage continued into the next morning and the internal temperature kept dropping I started to think about how people survived—much less worked—during winters before there were electricity, indoor plumbing and central heat. Without access to the internet and a charged smartphone for most of today, my options to work on the job hunt dramatically narrowed. I could either write my blog post by hand or read a book. I chose the latter, it helped lessen the anxiety of the impending DAY 90 deadline of this blogging challenge.
The power wasn’t restored until 3:40 in the afternoon and when it was everyone in the household cheered. The 16+ hour hiatus from the modern world made me realize just how much I love living and working in the 21st century with all its technology and all its possibilities.
